Our site lists qualified and experienced independent music teachers in the Armidale NSW Region.

We believe that teaching an instrument is an important part of music education and, like school teaching, we need to have some form of teacher training in order to provide quality music education.  A diploma in performance like the A.Mus.A., although a fine achievement, has no teacher training component.

There are many aspects to teaching a musical instrument: technique, healthy playing posture, maths (rhythm), reading (understanding of phrasing etc.), history, cultural and political influences on the style and interpretation according to the period of the music, psychology of teaching, expression (story telling), repertoire, science of acoustics, performance which develops self confidence and teaches public presentation, and much more.

At an independent music studio your child will be treated as an individual with a program developed to suit his or her learning needs, structured to develop talents and to strengthen areas where skills are weaker.

Anna completed her LTCL (Teaching) with Mother Augustine at the Ursuline Convent in Armidale and then did a MA in historical musicology at UNE with Gordon Anderson.  Later she studied Musicianship by correspondence with Dulcie Holland.  She is currently studying a Pedagogy Specialty with Guild in Melbourne online.

Her experience as a mental health nurse has given her a focus on the student as an individual and she enjoys getting to know her students and working with them to provide a program which suits their learning style and their personal preferences.  She also prepares them for AMEB or Trinity exams if that is part of their chosen pathway.
